Dd101 Tma 01 Essays

Dd101 Tma 01 Essays Dd101 Tma 01 Paper Dd101 Tma 01 Paper I decided to observe my local High Street in Mansfield Woodhouse, for its the main shopping road in what is known as our village. On City Road there are numerous shops that cater for other ethnic members of the community, my local Hight Street doesnt as we have no such shops but we do have members of the community that would benefit from this service. We dont have as many takeaways on our street to choose from that is one big difference we see with City Road. But we do have similar things for example Colin the Newsagent (Making Social lives DVD, The Open University, 2009). We have lost 1 local newsagent due to a large supermarket moving into the area but one did serve this change. Some places last longer then others with the change in the age range of the community changing more so at the moment, as more and more young families move into the area. We have a few small family run businesses that have served over the yours changing hands for generations just like Colin the Newsagent (Making Social lives DVD, The Open University, 2009) and BR Motors (Making Social lives DVD, The Open University, 2009). My local Hight Street is classed as part of the local shopping centre, were we have a supermarket, a butchers, chemists, newsagents among other things. The main differences between City Road and my local Hight street is the volume of traffic by vehicles as unless they are going from one end to the other or following the road round to the main car-park most people walk, so even though the High Street is the main road in the village it is no where near as busy as City Road so we have fewer traffic lights and predestination crossing paths. We also dont have so many bollards on the footpaths. Our shops cater for a very different clientele to City Road as we have fewer call from other ethnic community members and our student population is none existent. So were as City Road has plenty of takeaways and restaurants my street has public houses where generations have socialised for years. Being an old mining town we are surrounded by that history as-well and still plays a active roll to some people in there day to day lives. The old market square is a poplar meeting place for the older generation during the day, where they will sit and rest while shopping and talk to friends and family, during the summer it is very popular so most of our benches and bollards are based in this area along with lots of flowers and at Christmas this is where the tree is placed. Even though not everyone knows each other there is still a sense of community as we are surrounded by the history of it, in our shop fronts and surrounding area. We have the same modern conveniences as City Road of course such as road markings, street lights etc, but there is a closer more of a family feel brought to there area because the area is mainly families who have lived in the area for generations and have played a active role in the up keep of the area and the up keep of it. The things I observed on City Road remind me of a busy city centre with all the bollards and benches and the traffic lights, where as my High Street is of a old mining village that even though the village is as big as a town now, the close area around the High Street still looks like a small village were people meet to chat and enjoy the nice area and history that is maintained here. All of our shops and social meeting areas and buildings can be accessed by everyone regardless to there mobility. Over all my High Street is mainly a community place to shop and see friends and family, wherever you want to go there is help and support to complete your task. Everything from the bollards to the street lights have been placed where they course the least of problems for people. Even though there is plenty for young people to access the general feel of the place is for the older people and the families from the area. From my observations of City Road on (Making Social lives DVD, The Open University, 2009) it is designed for the busy people to get what they want as fast as they can.

Quotes From Hemingways The Sun Also Rises

Quotes From Hemingways The Sun Also Rises The Sun Also Rises brought Ernest Hemingway fame and fortune. The novel became one of the most well-known books of the lost generation. The story was largely based on the lives of Hemingway and his friends in Paris following World War I. Here are a few quotes from this famous book by Ernest Hemingway. Quotes From the Epigraph Through Chapter Five of The Sun Also Rises You are all a lost generation. I rather liked him and evidently she led him quite a life. Nobody ever lives their life all the way up except bull-fighters. Listen, Robert, going to another country doesnt make any difference. Ive tried all that. You cant get away from yourself by moving from one place to another. Theres nothing to that. This was Brett that I had felt like crying about. Then I thought of her walking up the street and stepping into the car, as I had last seen her, and of course in a little while I felt like hell again. It is awfully easy to be hard-boiled about everything in the daytime, but at night is another thing. Quotes From Chapter Six Through Chapter Ten of The Sun Also Rises Youre not a moron. Youre only a case of arrested development. Dont have scenes with your young ladies. Try not to. Because you cant have scenes without crying, and then you pity yourself so much you cant remember what the other persons said. We all ought to make sacrifices for literature. Look at me. Im going to England without a protest. All for literature. [S]he took great pride in telling me which of my guests were well brought up, which were of good family, who were sportsmen, a French word pronounced with the accent on the men. The only trouble was that people who did not fall into any of those three categories were very liable to be told there was no one home, chez Barnes. This wine is too good for toast-drinking, my dear. You dont want to mix emotions up with a wine like that. You lose the taste. I was a little ashamed, and regretted that I was such a rotten Catholic, but realized there was nothing I could do about it, at least for a while, and maybe never, but that anyway it was a grand religion, and I only wished I felt religious and maybe I would the next time. I have never seen a man in civil life as nervous as Robert Cohnnor as eager. I was enjoying it. It was lousy to enjoy it, but I felt lousy. Cohn had a wonderful quality of bringing out the worst in anybody. I was blind, unforgivingly jealous of what had happened to him. The fact that I took it as a matter of course did not alter that any. I certainly did hate him. Quotes From Chapter Eleven Through Chapter Nineteen of The Sun Also Rises Youre an expatriate. Youve lost touch with the soil. You get precious. Fake European standards have ruined you. You drink yourself to death. You become obsessed by sex. You spend all your time talking, not working. You are an expatriate, see. You hang around cafà ©s. For one who had aficion he could forgive anything. At once he forgave me all my friends. Without his ever saying anything they were simply a little something shameful between us, like the spilling open of the horses in bull-fighting. It was like certain dinners I remember from the war. There was much wine, an ignored tension, and a feeling of things coming that you could not prevent happening. Under the wine I lost the disgusted feeling and was happy. It seemed they were all such nice people. I thought I had paid for everything. Not like the woman pays and pays and pays. No idea of retribution or punishment. Just exchange of values. You gave something up and got something else. Or you worked for something. You paid some way for everything that was any good. Enjoying living was learning to get your moneys worth and knowing when you had it. That was morality; things that made you disgusted afterward. No, that must be immorality. The things that happened could only have happened during a fiesta. Everything became quite unreal finally and it seemed as though nothing could have any consequences. It seemed out of place to think of consequences during the fiesta. I hate his damned suffering. Oh, darling, please stay by me. Please stay by me and see me through this. In  bull-fighting  they speak of the terrain of the bull and the terrain of the bull-fighter. As long as a bull-fighter stays in his own terrain he is comparatively safe. Each time he enters into the terrain of the bull he is in great danger. Belmonte, in his best days, worked always in the terrain of the bull. This way he gave the sensation of coming tragedy. Because he did not look up to ask if it pleased he did it all for himself inside, and it strengthened him, and yet he did it for her, too. But he did not do it for her at any loss to himself. That seemed to handle it. That was it. Send a girl off with one man. Introduce her to another to go off with him. Now go and bring her back. And sign the wire with love. That was it all right. [T]he  end  of the line. All trains finish there. They dont go on anywhere. You know it makes one feel rather good deciding not to be a bitch. Isnt it pretty to think so?

Health Promotion Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words

Health Promotion - Essay Example It has been seen that the period of adolescence is like a conversion phase which brings unpredictable emotional sufferings, and it takes a shape of depreciation and anxiety. Change Management Plan Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1

Change Management Plan - Research Paper Example However, this leadership position was short-lived since towards the end of the 20th century, a company called Google emerged and gave Yahoo tough competition for its share in the Silicon Valley, especially after the bursting of the dot-com bubble in 2000 (The Guardian, 2008). Google soon gained an upper hand over Yahoo through its effective policies and talented personnel and Yahoo has not been able to gain its initial top ranking to date. The HR policy that this report proposes to change is that of ‘stack ranking’ or ‘Quarterly Performance Review’. The employee appraisal process was introduced by CEO Marissa Mayer in late 2013, and required that managers rate their employees on the basis of meeting their goals from a scale of 1 to 5. This system is an adaptation of GE’s forced ranking system (Pfeffer and Sutton, 2006) and here too some employees are forced to fall into the lowest category, even if they did not miss any goals. Since the lowest 5% percent employees have to suffer adverse consequences, including firing, this system seems unfair to many and raises questions about Mayer’s policies. According to Forbes (2013), more than 600 employees were fired because they had gotten low scores in two quarters of appraisals, which does not necessarily mean that they were poor performers, only that there were others (possibly) better than them. The forced ranking system was adopted because of its claimed benefits of eliminating inflated ratings and proving as a check and balance system (Grote, 2005), but for Yahoo it appears to be more troublesome than beneficial. Owing to the adverse effects that Mayer’s QPR is having on employee morale and motivation, it is proposed that the forced ranking system should be discontinued and the performance appraisal process should be modified in order to make it employee friendly. The ranking scale of meeting goals (from ‘misses’ to ‘exceeds’) should

Advantage of Internet Essay

But its all depends on how we use the INTERNET which is simply called as the backbone of world technology.. You might have heard that everything in this world has the other side, if one side is good, another side may be bad. Similarly, if one side is bad, another side will be good. This is the simple example, which may be applicable on the usage of internet. Internet, no doubt has made this world so wonderful, which we had never even dreamt of. For example, I am writing this answer for a person, who is thousands of miles away from my place. It is only internet, which has made our life so comfortable and informative, you name any information, it is just a click away from you. For professionals and students, this new virtual world has become very useful, it is like a sea or information or a reference book, which is always on your fingertips. As I mentioned, everything has the other side, internet too has the other side or negative side, which could badly spoil anyone especially children, who are exposed to many unwanted information like obscenity, sex, violence etc. They also get addicted to many things like online games, cartoons etc, which led to the deviation from studies and behavioral change. At last, I would like to say that parent should always keep watch on their wards and must ensure that their child don’t get exposed to unwanted content on internet, parents’ can also use the child lock or block the websites, which have the explicit content. The advantages are: information, communication and creation. For example, there is a vast amount of info on the Internet which can be used both by children and adults alike. Everyone uses the Internet for e-mail or blog. And everyday lots of new creations such as websites and forums are created and people use them in accordance to the values of the other 2 advantages. The disadvantages are: people can become addicted to the Internet. They will stay inside all day long and not stretch or anything. And, some people have  their head buried in their Blackberries all day long. Another disadvantage is that there are a lot of inappropriate sites on the Internet which children visit. They see things that are too old for them. Personally, i feel like it gives the child motives to study, because theres a lot to know, and the internet makes it seem interesting to know, it makes finding information easy, helps with answering questions, contacting the teachers, and staying in contact with friends, but then again, there are sooo many distractions; if the child doesnt have much self control, they wouldnt get anything done, but only use facebook, ect. And there are always alternatives to the internet, like cell phones to stay in contact, books to learn, and dictionaries to look up words. You dont REALLY need the internet. For an adult, I feel like they can use it to share things with friends, find out what they need to know, advertise, but theres distraction’s always for them too. There are advantages and disadvantages both aspects we find using internet by the children. To know about world’s information they can grab immediately through it and update themselves with the knowledge. The games, notes, puzzles, outdoor/indoor activities to develop their mind and many things are there which are useful to them. But to see computer continue might harm their eyesight, they may go to see towards negative pictures and video clips, give up concentrations towards study and more unusual moves will be created through internet. Internet has made the world narrow and reachable immediately for friendship and planning for new activities, communicating with different cultures and exchanging ideas as well as to know about new places and see in the picture lively. However, the bad aspect is to keep vulgar pictures in sharing and to scold others or threaten through internet has become much easy. Therefore, we might get both the things in the use of internet by the children in this society. The proliferation of Internet technologies has both advantages and  disadvantages. Internet is defined as a collection of various services and resources. Today, Internet has brought a globe in a single room. Right from getting news across the corner of the world to accessing knowledge resources to shopping, everything is at your fingertips. Internet has tremendous potential and a lot to offer in terms of services. However, like every single innovation in science and technology, Internet has its own advantages and disadvantages. And it has some effects also in students in their development socially, psychologically, physically, emotionally and spiritually. There is so much that students can do with the Internet. Not only can they communicate with other students, they can gain from others’ knowledge and experiences, participate in chat rooms, share ideas and solutions and learn about the many diverse cultures out there. And one of its advantages is the email. Email is a quick and easy way to stay in touch with family, friends, business contacts, and strangers. It doesn’t cost the price of a stamp and you don’t have to wait for days to get a response or answer. In the business world, it is any easy, fast way to keep in touch with co-workers and employers. Emails keep us from wasting valuable time being placed on hold when you need to contact someone regarding business or pleasure. Many students also use it to pass their projects via email and it’s because it is fast and reliable. And the other one is the Infinite storage of information. The Internet is a virtual treasure trove of information. Any kind of information on any topic under the sun is available on the Internet. The ‘search engines’ on the Internet can help you to find data on any subject that you need. And for students it could make their work easier like their homework but sometimes the information you get from Internet cannot be 100% right, because everybody can write  on Internet about everything. Entertainment is another popular reason why many students nowadays prefer to surf the Internet. In fact, media of internet has become quite successful in trapping multifaceted entertainment factor. Downloading games, visiting chat rooms or just surfing the Web are some of the uses people have discovered. There are numerous games that may be downloaded from the Internet for free. The industry of online gaming has tasted dramatic and phenomenal attention by game lovers. In fact, the Internet has been successfully used by people to find lifelong partners. When people surf the Web, there are numerous things that can be found. Music, hobbies, news and more can be found and shared on the Internet. And like Youtube where students usually visit to listen music. And when one is bored he could search for games he want and play. But despite its numerous advantages the Internet is not absolutely free of weak points. Thus, alongside with useful and beneficial information the Internet sources, sites that make pornography available to students are all over in the Web. In addition, too often the ease with which the information can be retrieved is not directly proportional to its quality and reliability. Many Internet users indicate as a flagrant problem the potential ability of dangerous strange fellows to make contact with students. Disadvanatages your eyes will be destroyed. no appetite in the food. when you’re having an assignment, you’ll immediately copy and then paste without reading and understanding it carefully pornographies unreliable informations you’re going to be a victim of some social networking sites like hacking, etc.

Substitute Folder - Creating a Teacher Packet

A substitute folder is an essential resource that all teachers should have prepared and clearly labeled on their desks in the event of an unexpected absence. It provides a substitute with a general plan for teaching your students on any given day and already contains all necessary materials so that all they have to do is execute your plans. On top of that, it should tell a sub everything they might need to know about your class and school. Read to find out what to include in your substitute folder. What to Include in Your Substitute Folder The contents of a substitute folder vary by teacher but the most useful ones include the following general items. Class List and Seating Chart Provide a class list for your substitute and place a star next to any students that you know they can go to for help. In addition, leave a copy of the class seating chart clearly labeled with names and any important information about each child. Attach any food allergies and pertinent medical information to these. Rules and Routines Include a copy of your daily routine and class schedule. Give the substitute information about attendance, your methods for collecting student work, restroom policies, consequences of misbehavior, dismissal routines, and so on. Include important schoolwide policies such as tardy procedures and lunch/playground rules as well. Emergency Procedures and Drills Include a copy of any and all school emergency procedures—dont assume that something wont come up. Highlight exit  routes and doors so that a substitute can easily navigate your students to safety in the event of an emergency. Behavioral Management Strategies and Plans Provide any classroom or individual behavior plans that a substitute would need to be successful. Most teachers request a note from their substitutes about student misbehavior so that it can be properly addressed when they return. Giving substitutes strategies for getting your students attention and managing conflict can also be helpful. Generic Lesson Plans Plan at least a weeks worth of emergency lessons in case you are not able to write new lesson plans for a substitute ahead of time. These are usually generic and allow students to practice skills without requiring a sub to deliver a full lesson. Include plenty of copies of spare worksheets and review exercises as well as quick activities to do if these are finished early. Note Template Many teachers request that substitutes leave them with a note about their day. To make this simpler for your subs, you can create a template that includes all items you want to be covered such as the names of absent students, conflicts that arose, and any comments about whether the day went according to plan. How to Organize Your Substitute Folder Use a binder with dividers and clearly-labeled sections for every day of the week. You should include lesson plans, procedures, and any materials necessary for each day. In the front and back pocket of the binder, include organizational tools such as office passes, lunch tickets, and attendance cards. To keep materials that wont fit in the binder all in one place, try making a sub tub that functions as a catch-all for items a substitute might need. These can include anything from coloring utensils to adhesive bandages. Always leave your substitute materials out in the open so that they are easy to find without your help. You never know when you wont be able to make it to school on short notice.
